Module 2: Lesson 1

By studying coral reefs, students will learn about the structure of an animal cell, develop a model and construct an explanation of how it helps an animal obtain nutrients.

Lesson Plan

Essential Questions: What makes up an animal cell? Are corals plants, animals or rocks?

Objectives: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • Develop a model of a cell
  • Construct an explanation of the cell structures that help animals in obtaining nutrients in order to grow, reproduce, make needed materials, and process waste
  • Understand that coral polyps are animals
