Module 2: Lesson 2
Through this lesson students will learn about coral reproduction, how far coral planulae travel and the factors that determine when and where they settle. Students will use data from scientists who study coral recruitment to complete their activity. They will also complete a research project on corals that produce sexually or asexually.

Essential Questions: How do corals reproduce? How does asexual reproduction result in offspring with identical genetic information while sexual reproduction results in genetic variation?
Objectives: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
- Develop and use a model to describe how some coral species reproduce through asexual reproduction and some reproduce through sexual reproduction
- Understand that offspring can have identical genetic information or genetic variation
- Discuss coral polyp recruitment and settlement in relation to ocean currents
