Can You Take the Heat?

Module 3: Lesson 1

Students will act out a skit that explains symbiotic relationships and the complexity of coral reef ecosystems in terms of ecological succession. They will then analyze and interpret data on coral bleaching events.

Lesson Plan

Essential Question: How do the causes of coral bleaching help scientists to predict changes in biodiversity and complexity within coral reef ecosystems in terms of ecological succession?

Objectives: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • Construct an argument to predict changes in biodiversity and complexity within coral reef ecosystems in terms of ecological succession
  • Understand what kinds of events cause corals to bleach
  • Analyze and interpret data sets
